Graphic designer resume example

Your portfolio does the showing; your resume does the proving. A graphic designer resume should be as well-set as your work, but readable by an ATS, so the design shows in typography and spacing rather than graphics.

Skills to include

Hard skills

  • Adobe Illustrator, Photoshop, InDesign
  • Figma
  • Typography and layout
  • Print production and prepress
  • Brand systems
  • Basic motion (After Effects)

Soft skills

  • Taking feedback without losing the idea
  • Presenting concepts
  • Deadline management
  • Client communication

How to write it

  1. Put your portfolio URL in the header, spelled out; it will be printed and typed in.
  2. Show business results for design work: sell-through, sign-ups, faster production.
  3. Resist infographics and skill bars. A beautifully typeset single column is itself a design sample.

Example bullet points

  • Designed brand identities for 14 clients, from logo to style guide and launch assets
  • Led packaging redesign for a regional coffee roaster; retail sell-through rose 23% the following quarter
  • Built a Figma component library that cut social campaign production time by a third
  • Presented concepts directly to client founders and marketing leads
  • Prepared 300+ print files a year, catching colour and bleed issues before press
  • Designed menus, signage and event materials for local businesses

In the builder, the "Sharpen these bullets" button rewrites your own lines in this style without inventing facts.

Questions

Should a graphic designer resume be creative?

Creative in type and spacing, conventional in structure. Many design roles still go through an ATS, and a clear hierarchy shows more skill than decoration.

How many portfolio pieces should I link?

Link one portfolio URL on the resume and keep 6–10 of your strongest, most relevant projects there.
