How the resume score is calculated
The score adds up nine checks worth 100 points, plus a job-ad keyword match worth 20 more when you paste an ad (the total is scaled back to 100). Each check reflects advice you will find in recruiter guidance from sources like Harvard's Office of Career Services and the major ATS vendors' own documentation:
- Structure (30 pts): contact details found in text, standard section headings, a summary.
- Evidence (40 pts): enough bullet points, bullets opening with action verbs, and at least half containing a number.
- Readability (30 pts): no filler phrases or first-person pronouns, a sensible length, and dates on roles.
- Keywords (+20 pts): the terms repeated most in the job ad, single words and two-word phrases, checked against your text.
It is a readiness score, not a prediction. Real ATS platforms do not assign a universal score; recruiters filter and search, and a human decides. What a high score does mean is that nothing basic will get in the way.
What counts as a good resume score?
80+: ready to send, tailor the keywords per application. 60–79: solid structure, but bullets need numbers or verbs. Under 60: a heading, contact detail or bullet structure is missing; fix those first, they are quick.

Is this resume checker really free?
Yes. The score and fix list are free and unlimited because they run in your browser. The optional AI review is free too, with a fair-use limit per hour.
Is my resume uploaded?
No. The score is computed on your device. Only if you press "Get an AI review" is the text sent, once, to our AI provider for that answer; it is not stored.
Why is my score different on other checkers?
Every tool weights different things and there is no official ATS score. Use any checker as a list of fixes, not a grade.
Can I check a PDF?
Open the PDF, select all the text and paste it here. If the pasted text comes out garbled or empty, that is a warning in itself: an ATS may see the same thing.
